>>the Company reported a loss of $7.9 billion or
$5.99 per share for the quarter and $50.6 billion or $46.30 per share for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2001.<<

Is $50 billion in one fiscal year any sort of modern corporate record?

Hey, they've certainly outdone Nortel!

(Check out the way the bulk of the SDLI and ETEK write-downs are done retroactively in last quarters 10-Q.)

Talk about a popped bubble. Awesome.

you are bang on regarding the cash flow issue. they look like they have a fair bit of room given the positive cash flow of last qtr and the current bank.

the writiedown means very little, nor did anyone really get hurt. if i buy your company and pay 10 times too much that usually isn't good. but what if i pay you in currency that is 10 times overvalued.

This is all a wash.

Unlike NT, these guys have no debt, so no-one is standing there with their hand out looking for $50 million of interest payments every month.

Every company in the sector has said there isn't a rebound coming for 12-18 months, so why should jdsu be any surprise?

Maybe the size of the loss or headcount.

Why would there be shorts who haven't covered? I mean, what is the upside in keeping a short of jdsu at 9 vs. the downside?

So... if there isn't a short covering rally, then there has to be people who actually want to buy it for it to go up.

Maybe traders will buy it trying it flip it for a few bucks.

Personally, I think it probably trades sideways for a long time developing a base after it hits a final bottom.

No wonder FEJ was willing to sell shares before earnings.

I'm still amazed at the job losses in this sector. Much bigger than the dot.gones.
