From what I have read in Prechter's book, only ending diagonals can have overlap and these can be in position 5 of a 5 wave move or in position C of an a-b-c correction which takes the form of a 3-3-3-3-3 wave structure. In the DOW , I can trace out a 3 wave structure in 4 of the 5 waves, with the 5th unclear and in the Naz with at least 2 waves (one up and one down), and in the SPX in at least 3 waves, whereas 5 waves are a bit unclear in some areas. Judging from the position on the charts, it's not likely that it's in the 5th wave and thus more likely in the c position.

Overlapping waves can also occur in leading diagonals which occurs at the wave 1 position or in wave A of an a-b-c correction. The problem is there are a few spots where I cannot count 5 waves where they should be, and leading diagonals have a 5-3-5-3-5 structure.

As far as extensions go, I think even they have to conform to normal elliot wave guidelines. They only extend a wave. Overlapping cannot occur.

Perhaps there may have been something I missed, but this is what I know.
