Thanks for the great post, DJ!

>>So what we have now is tiger squads, manned with psychotic managers, -"Och, Frau Meier, zo nice to see you, been a long time, right? Can I talk to Georg for a second, och nein, he died last year?..." - hunting down the same people they had to send packing five years ago.<<

This had me rolling on the floor with laughter. Who said that Germans have no sense of humor! So, you work for VW, right?

Professor Franklin Becker of Cornell University has pointed out, "Organisations do not become more competitive just by reducing costs, but by employing competent people and letting them work in a manner most efficient to them".

The early retirees people -today at their late 40's- climbed the hierarchy during the oil boom years. Cost was not an objection. Deregulation, globalization leberalization is all new for this people.

I worked for a the German company -mentioned before- always as an outsider. They could not give me a job. I went to Munich to meet a director and asked: "Why you tell me you need me but you are not willing to give me a job?"

"We cannot give you a job because to give a job to a foreigner must e a aprpoved by the union representative" They will not approve it since we have many engineers unemployed and we have to employ them first"

That was in Sept. 1984.

"Why those unemployed engineers are not replacing me in Africa?" I asked.

The director said: "Well, those engineers are about 45 years old. They are not trained nor trainable. If we call them and offer him a job in Nigeria -where I was then- he would tell us that his doctor forbid him to go to such tough places due to his pain in the back, or his arm or leg"

They gave me a bonus of 5.000DM and send me back to Africa. As a result I never paid a penny of taxes in Germany. Worked for them for about 15 years. Have always pockted the DM.
