The unions are still needed - by the folks who run them and oppress their worker members with high dues which get siphoned off for the needs of the few leaders.

Unions are a product of supply and demand. If every business treated its workers fairly, with respect, and paid them a decent wage, there wouldn't be any need for unions. 600,000 American workers joined unions last year. Sounds to me like the need's still there.
