Doug,

Goodwill left looks to be around $12 Billion.

<bulk of it was just taken, would we not see a decent revision of EPS for the coming year? > I assume you mean lessen the amortization and increase earnings?

Well no. Not anymore. The newest rules don't require Gooodwill to be amortized unless it becomes impaired in some way. BTW this is a dangerous new concept in my opinion, and will skew some balance sheets in the future.

But take this statement in the earnings report:
"The Company's policy is to assess enterprise level goodwill if the market capitalization of the Company is less than its net assets with goodwill being reduced to the extent net assets are greater than market capitalization."
Guess what? As of right now, Net Assets are $16 Billion per quarter report, market cap at $9 is only $12 Billion. They have some more Goodwill writing off to do to be in compliance with that statement. I think this is due to the stock price falling from $12ish when they did the quarterly calculations to the $8ish today.

Oh yes. Instead of constantly showing negative EPS, JDSU is about to start showing positive EPS. This is a direct result of the writeoff. The other benefit is their tax situation has just changed dramatically.
