The Bad Dinner

Mr. X and I went to a double birthday dinner for some of our friends at a
very exclusive and expensive restaurant which had some of the most
expensive and most gaggy food I've ever eaten. 110 dollars for dinner and it
SUCKED. I am rather pissed off. Nothing tasted like you thought it would. And
what cretin thought blue cheese and apricots with potato pancakes would go
together? (Shafts Blue Cheese Potato Cakes with Prosciutto and Apricot
Vinaigrette 10.25) I mean it's not like they were even potato pancakes- more
like molten lumps (2) of liquid blue cheese goo. And the calamari MR. X
ordered was giant (not small crisp morsels), and greasy. And there he was
breaking his vegetarian rules because he loves calamari and it SUCKED. Ok
so then on to dinner. Which sucked as well. I don't even know what dinner
was. There were scallops wrapped in bacon- and the scallops weren't done.
And they had no taste. There was some sort of giant mess of "potatoe salad"
which was little red potatoes, something that looked like peaches, "heirloom
tomatoes"(right, with NO flavor, I bet they came from Costco), and a big
bunch of champagne grapes- which were good, and were the only thing I ate. I emailed the restaurant and told them about my dinner and mentioned the lovely grapes- but I told them I thought whatever I had paid for the scallops was probably a bit pricey for a bunch of grapes, no matter how delicious.

BLECH

On to desert. Things had to get better. And I had lots of room. Apricot berry
torte(Apricot Almond Torte with light Blackberry Anglaise 5.95). Doesn't that
sound like there will be apricots and berries, and that maybe it will taste like almonds? No. I'm sorry. You are wrong. It
was a piece of gingerbread cake with a few berries on the side, on a plate painted with blackberry? (who could tell) sauce, and a scoop
of grape sorbet (cabernet sorbet- fancy schmancy- it's grape).

Sigh
Chez Pannisse was SO much better
The restaurant's name is ...."Mudd's. Aptly named, imo.
