Texas attitude and Kyoto

Wasn't Kyoto blown out of the water with the Clinton administration? The senate in 1997 fried it 95-nyet, Bush is just maintaining the status quo.

Art, I think another reason behind the administration's Kyoto opposition is that it is support by pretty poor science. I have not read anything that convinces me that the global warming that they are measuring is anything more than noise in the system. We have had far, far greater temperature swings in the past that had nothing to do with man made interference with global weather. Global weather is too complicated to be modeled accurately, so the modeler makes simplifying assumptions until the model is small enough to be computable. I know from 40 years experience with this sort of thing that the simplifying assumptions always are biased towards what you want to demonstrate.

Having said that, I do think we have to deal with the problems, but doing so in the context of such a flawed treaty seems to me to be pure folly.

Furthermore, I suspect that a lot of other world leaders breathed a great sigh of relief when Bush refused to sign it. They could then sign it knowing that it would never be implemented and and enforced. That way they get the political benefit of being "green" with very little risk of actually having to do anything that will be detrimental to their economy. History may show that this was all staged the the whole crew was in cahoots.

BWTHDIK?

Best to all,
