Hi Yiwu - nice to see you here.

The article you linked seems a bit strange to me. "Europe was well integrated, economically, in the years before its unimaginable fratricide in World War I." Huh? Europe has a history of international/intercultural warfare that's as old as Europe. Also a history of international economic trade, but not economic "integration." It's got nothing to do with China, either.

Everybody knows why Taiwan became Taiwan. The question I would have is whether China has a history of having segments of China break off and form separate countries, or whether China has a history of re-integrating separatists.

All over the world, there is a tendency to split off on nationalist/cultural grounds. Empires are devolving into well-integrated nations, and by well-integrated, I mean, speaking the same language, sharing cultural values. Yugoslavia isn't Yugoslavia anymore, Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland are not the same country.

So, what about Taiwan? Is it populated by people who are linguistically and culturally the same as mainland China?
