I belief how people act and what they do define who a people are. What are the main tenants of Christian belief. America is one of the most Christian nations that has ever existed. What are the main tenants of Islam. America is one of the most Islamic nations that has ever existed. Any belief system that has as it's tenants equality, love, tolerance, self sacrifice, charity, mercy, can be applied to America.
