The average Cuban can get by in life without being a prostitute, a pimp or a gangster, something that was very difficult under Batista.

I don't know how common prostitution was under Batista but it is not accurate to imply that the average person at the time was or had to be a prostitute, pimp, or a gangster. On the other hand prostitution is very common in Cuba now.

Also even if Castro is better then Batista (and I don't think this has been established) that still does not exuse the stupidity and brutality of his regime. It is at least more totalitarian then the Batista's regime was which in and of itself is a strong negative, but just posibly Batista was worse over all, if not you can find others that where indeed worse such as Stalin and Pol Pot. None of this exuses what Castro has done.
