"The way you get to be a prude, IMO, is when you are unwilling to accept those couples that have responsible and caring sexual relationships outside of marriage as within the boundaries of "decent."

I don't understand your point here. It seems you are trying to skirt the issues presented in my last post. However, as I defined marriage and as you defined legitimate relationship, there is virtually no difference; especially as we both agreed the piece of paper is not a necessary component of the definition. We were attempting to draw a line that qualifies the word "illicit," with "decent" being a word that would stand as the counter to "illicit." On the other hand if you just have a problem with the word "decent" as steven does, why bring it up now?

My opinion, though, is that
no steadies are "obligated" to have sex. If they choose chastity, that's just fine with me although I wouldn't recommend
it.

Huh? Why not?

Chastity is the only certain way to avoid most sexually transmitted diseases.

Chastity is the only certain way to avoid an unwanted pregnancy. (I hope, if they're only going steady, that any pregnancy would be unwanted.)

These seem to me to be pretty good options.
