Pacific Century Cyberworks Invests $7Mil In Outblaze 08/19/99 HONG KONG, CHINA, 1999 AUG 19 (NB) -- By staff, IT Daily. Richard Li's Pacific Century Cyberworks (PCC) has injected US$7 million into Web portal hosting service Outblaze.

The deal with China Rich Holdings and Outblaze will give PCC a 20 percent holding in the company. The alliance will give Outblaze access to PCC's developing broadband service and partnerships.

Outblaze chief technical officer and vice president, Yat Siu, said the company will use the money to develop a wide range of e-commerce and communication services.

"Outblaze will be a supplier of messaging and Internet technology services to cable operators within PCC's universe. Outblaze messaging technology provides the ability to offer e-mail services, calendaring/scheduling, messaging, discussion boards and other interactive features that could add significant value to PCC activities," he said.

Kelly Cheng, chief financial officer of China Rich Holdings, said, "Within the three months since the forming of the joint venture with Outblaze, China Rich has provided financial resources and financial management expertise, as well as implemented cost control procedures. We have successfully brought in strategic alliances to assist Outblaze in expanding its user base and to gain more global market share."

Outblaze markets an Instant Portal service, which provides portal developers with the infrastructure around which they can build Web portals.

The company claims to have signed up over 7,000 Web sites and 1.5 million users.
