Worse than that, who could tell the good guys from the bad? Ask Senator Kerrey.

Each troop would have had to kill an average of 25 of the enemy.

At our peak , we had about 550,000 troops there plus the ARVN plus some Aussies and various other contingencies from other countries. We had available and used every advanced weapon known to man short of nukes and a whole bunch invented just for Vietnam. The enemy had little more than AK 47's and mortars.
What didn't we do that would have made the difference short of nuking them.....??
