We didn't even come close to fighting it right. Our political leaders were listening to the flower power instead of their military leaders. Hanoi was off limits until Nixon took office. I saw a segment on the History channel that said Ho Chi Mihn originally wanted Vietnam to become a territory of the U.S like Guam but was rebuffed. Who would have thunked it.

The enemy had little more than AK 47's and mortars.

Inaccurate. Our major strategic advantage was in air superiority. It was not lack of weaponry but politically stunted tactics which doomed the US effort.

A little more than AK 47's and mortars I'm afraid. Oh, all those helicopters and jets fell out of the sky because birds got caught in their engines, that's right.
