There are large parts of southern CA that make you feel like you are
no longer in the United States.


I heard a statistic, purportedly from the latest Census, that in 40% of California households English is not the primary language spoken in the home.

I remember when Orange County was pretty conservative and even portions of LA. I suspect those days won't be seen again.

Well, there is that marvelously vociferous (and quite large) conservative voting bloc in CoCo County* . . . can you say Rossmoor?

* Contra Costa County--the Northern California counterpart to Orange County

<disclaimer> I rather like the good folks of Rossmoor and frequently find myself aligned with them.
