Thanks for that link Les,
Most dont believe that I had a high school class mate that went to Vietnam in the summer of 1959 as a member of the US Army....

Best wishes
Hal

That is a great link. I had it before and had lost it. One of the things, that is not obvious and little known was FDR's distaste for French and English colonialism. One has to read history of FDR rather than Vietnam to find out. But the truth is that when the OSS went to IndoChina, it was as much to help Ho Chi Minh with the Japanese as to remove and keep the French out. That declaration of independence was no accident.

Harry Truman did not have the same POV regarding colonialism and deferred to the French. As the link demonstrates His lack of recognition for an independent Government caused Ho to align with the communists. We could have prevented that.

thanks for posting the link

Yes, Les I understand that the Viet Nam issue was started in the fifties with the French and they gave up and we entered. I also understand that Kennedy was quite dissatisfied with the goings on in Viet Nam and was contemplating pulling the plug when he got plugged hmmmmmmmmmmm
