Why does Linux do well in the server market? Because it performs well as a server and is cheap. Why will it succeed in the desktop market? Because it performs well and is cheap.

The big difference between OS/2 and Linux is, that Linux grows all the time, independent of any economic base. This means that Linux market share increases although it doesn't pay.

The demand for pre-installed Linux is not there at Dell customers, but it will be in some years.
