a war being fought for the wrong purposes

Tell that to the spirits and surviving families of the millions who perished fleeing Vietnam after the war and all those who died in the killing fields....

"Oh, but we did believe in the war for at least the first few years,"

I don't ever remember large numbers volunteering for this war. I remember everyone trying to avoid the draft through student deferments, having kids, etc. There may have been some verbal support among the public but be honest. Nearly everyone was trying to dodge the draft. Not like WWII when it was considered dishonorable not to serve. I don't call that support.
