windsock, Who commissioned the integration project?
Hint: It was a Japanese company who wanted it for use as a calculator and who may have originated the concept in their RFQ?

Re: the product was the Intel 4004

Conceived, specified, and designed by a Japanese calculator company. Intel, motto, "get your cheap memory IC's here", was the contract FAB.

Intel ripped off its customer's design, establishing a tradition, and the rest is history.

:-)

Windsock
intel got it well deserved respect in the market. But what exactly does it mean to invent the market.

To discover semiconductor properties (not intel)
To invent transistor (not intel)
To invent circuit (not intel)
to build 4004 - hey we got to intel then that stage defines the market, right? (that is build and not invented)
