What's with you guys? When debt was going up, that was grounds for gloom-and-doom, now debt is going down, and that's grounds for gloom-and-doom, as well.

Is it possible, just possible, that good news might be good?

Don't forget that the report does not include home mortgages and home equity loans. The pitches for replacing other loans with home equity loans have reached a crescendo and falling mortgage interest rates have cooperated. This report does not necessarily mean that the consumer is retrenching.
