The fact tgat tge tax code is manipulated to favor one group over another doesn't mean that we should encourage even more of this maniuplation and special tax breaks or penalties.

You're right. My point was just that it has become an inherent element in tax policy that it isn't about the revenue, and hasn't been for a long, long time. It's about encouraging behavior that is deemed to be helpful, and drilling and development is one of those things.

But I must say, I haven't looked at the current legislation so I really have no idea what "tax breaks" are there. Because taxation is so difficult to understand, often it becomes a political weapon and it is entirely possible that the "tax breaks" have been overstated by the media and blown out of proportion by the Dems.
