Elmer, et al, check out this Power point presentation from a couple of days ago by Anand Chandrasekher of Intel, has Piper Jaffray (where Kumar works) logo on each page. Piper asked Intel for use of the slides? Some controversial quotes came out of the Anand C. presentation, maybe taken out of context, on P4 yields vs. PIII, some other stuff. Theme of the presentation is Breaking Away (from the competition).

Slides 11 and 12 graphically show the change in strategy to drive the P4 at 1.5 and 1.6 GHz, no 1.3 or 1.4 down to $800 price point PCs in 2H01.

Slide 14 shows a pulling away graph from the "competition" with a 500 MHz gap between P4 and the "competition" at end Q3.

Slide 16 graph on IA share in servers by number of CPUs, now and projected 2005.

Slide 18 chest thumping about Itanium.

Slide 19 shows where the money went (6 fabs readying 0.13, by name of fab), 300 mm fabs shown also.

ELmer - Re: "just what miracle is it going to do for AMD?"

I don't expect it to produce a miracle.

I merely pointed it out as an indication that AMD is in Deep Doo Doo with their SOI process and design.
