Of course, socialists would use taxpayer funds to cure societal ills that aren't necessarily "rights".

I don't disagree with your rant about escalating rights. But I think that if the community refuses to sell you food even though you can pay, then they are effectively killing you, and the right not to be murdered is about as basic as it gets.
