<that's another argument for having a notebook PC as a desktop replacement....>

Yeahbut (aren't yeahbuts great?)

If you use a notebook for a desktop and keep it plugged in continuously, the battery seems to progressively loose its charge holding capability. Even the high priced new batteries do it eventually.

You can (another yeahbut)usually get everything saved and closed out, and shut down ~ but for me, that's when the power comes back on.

Charles

Edit: Duh! I suppose you could remove the battery to prevent this loss of chargeability, but (still another yeahbut) then you might as well have a real desktop. Plus, it seems you get a lot more computer power for your $$$ with a desktop.

Thanks Gottfried! I think I will go out and buy a UPS.

Last month I was right in the middle of preparing something to email my boss when the electric went out and I lost the whole hour of work since I didn't back it up. It ends up that LIPA (electric company) was doing work on a line across the street from my house. I immediately went out there to complain that they turned the electric off without telling me (the guy claims he knocked on my door but I didn't answer - he didn't try using something called a "door bell" - I guess that would have been too difficult) Anyhow, my neighbor was out there and she told me about this UPS - that was the first time I ever heard of it - I thought she was talking about United Parcel!!
