Joan: Good point. In my opinion neither has performed well for the past two years. The question is which one, if either, is positioned to do well now? I cannot for the life of me be optimistic about tech stocks. I think they are in for an extended period of under-performance. That, in turn, will weaken the appeal of US markets which are so tech heavy and because tech was the source of so much instant success that attracted foreign investment. If the foreigners back-off of our stock markets, the current account cannot be serviced and the dollar will go down.. that is a fact IMO. In that environment, gold should seriously outperform tech.
