John: Consumers don't make decisions based on model numbers. Most consumers are not even aware of the model number.

They may not be aware of it once they have bought it, but believe me, if you are in a store and have two notebooks next to each other where one is called Compaq Presario 1200 and the other Compaq Presario 1600, the majority of customers will believe that the 1600 one is better.
