Anixter of AMD claims "no price war"

I read that one too... best laugh I've had all day...

Given the scaling of the P4 vs. the K7, and the fact that the 1.8GHz P4 is starting to mop the floor with a 1.4GHz K7... A 2.0GHz P4 is going to cream a 1.5GHz K7 on any modern benchmark... and have a 500MHz speed disadvantage to boot!!! ...and before you throw up an obsolete benchmark... people DON'T buy NEW computers to run OLD software... Every time I upgrade it's because I've gotten new software that makes my old system choke, cough, and wheeze.

It smells a bit as an AMD attempt at collusion (if that is spelled right). I read the statement as we will only be able to get ("go after") 75% of the market, the rest is Intel's - in an attempt to stabilize prices - I believe that statement clearly reflects that AMD is hurting.

IBM drops AMD in North America
By Michael Kanellos CNET News.com

IBM has quietly discontinued using Advanced Micro Devices' chips in PCs sold in North America, as the battle for market share between AMD and Intel intensifies.

Big Blue continues to use AMD chips in computers sold in Asia, but an IBM spokesman confirmed Monday that the company has dropped AMD's Athlon and Duron chips from its desktop lineup for the United States and Canada. IBM has also curtailed marketing AMD-based computers in Europe, the spokesman said.
