I don't know the US constitution in any great detail but I thought there was something about regulation interstate commerce in there that has allowed a lot of the expansion of government activity in the US. Also I guess liberty is in the eye of the beholder as to what that means?

I'm just expressing what I would like to see the government do. Some aspects of the US government like Social Security are much too big (just one example) and there is over-regulation in other areas like banning drugs and the ridiculous drinking age of 21 among other things.

Many people, including me, think Abe Lincoln ruined America. Before then, and according to the constitution, the role of the federal government was extremely limited. Lincoln changed all that. I'm sure he had the best of intentions but with those best intentions he put into place everything the founding fathers had tried so hard to avoid. The southern states said "stay out of our business." They didn't think the civil war was about slavery, they thought it was about states rights according to the constitution. But the winner gets to write history, so now it has turned out it was about slavery.(Slavery was and is an abomination). Anyway, after that the Federal government has steadily taken control until our situation now in which we have states passing laws, such as medical marijuana (and one million other things), and the federal government over-ruling them. Timothy McVeigh said he took an oath to the constitution and in his mind he was abiding by that oath by attempting to damage the Federal government, much more than he felt he was doing by protecting corporate profits in Kuwait. Sure cold-blooded killing is wrong, but was it more wrong in Kuwait or in Oklahoma? Anyway the media will make sure none of this is ever really discussed, after all the real burning issue today is Chandra Levy.

How about roads? Should all roads, highways and bridges be privatized? Do we pay tolls to each homeowner when we pass in front of their house, or what?

If the swamps get full of mosquitos, and everyone is coming down with malaria, but the rich guy who owns the land around the swamp doesn't want to kill the larvae, and all the people who are getting sick and dying are poor, is there a free market solution?

What if GE decides to dump PCBs into the Hudson River? What's the free market solution?

The Mississippi River floods in the spring. What's the free market solution?
