SOI, SOI, wherefore art thou? Elmer writes: "It IS rather remarkable. With IBM canning AMD I think things are starting to snowball. The Intel 2GHz announcement just underscored the growing disadvantage AMD faces. Intel breaking away, cratering ASPs, no new products in sight, a delayed process, red ink, customers dropping AMD like a leper in a daycare center. You name it... things look bad... Thank God Jerry's still in charge... Best friend Intel ever had..." Maybe someone convinced Jerry and Ben and Hector that AMD could win a price war because of its superior--so the Droids tell us--manufacturing and design capabilities. Their "We will undercut Intel by 20%" (or was it 25%) strategy is what started this price war. Now they are seeing who can win a price war. But, like all great tragedies, they are awaiting a deus ex machina waiting in the wings to drop down and lift Jerry to safety. SOI, SOI, wherefore art thou?
