"I don't think we are out of the woods yet. The clear danger as perceived by WS is that IBM was just the beginning. GTW and HWP may follow because of a very bad PC environment and Dell forcing everybody to cut costs at all costs. And Intel is always lurking around with hard to refuse deals."

Perhaps INTC needs to test $22 for capitulation to have occurred, once and for all?

Kap, Re: <I don't think we are out of the woods yet. >

IMO, we're a far cry from out of the woods. There's more production around than you can shake a stick at, and not just in CPUs. The economy sucks. Argentina is about to take a dive and there are lots worse than Argentina.

We're not out of the woods, we're most likely not even all the way into them yet!

Kap,

I think that's why AMD is slashing prices. There's no
way that the Athlon will not sell out. The question is
at what price? The other question is whether T-bird wafer
starts have stopped. Is AMD now at 100% Paly starts?

It may hurt tier one OEM. They have to take care. They only represent 40% of the market and in a difficult time, business are more diligent to find a cheaper solution, helping smaller actors.
