been close to 20 hours but some games have been quite long.

I believe the longest professional baseball game on record went 22 innings. That's nearly 2-1/2 full games. But today that wouldn't happen -- the teams use up their pitchers much faster these days, and by the 16th inning or so they're out of pitchers who can keep the game under control.
