Yep. The coin toss at the beginning of a football game is pretty meaningless in terms of the outcome since it reverses at the start of the second half.

Personally, I prefer football tiebreakers which are as close to equal as they can be. The college rule is close, but still imperfect in that there is a big advantage to the second team which knows whether they have to score a touchdown or only a field goal to win or force another overtime.

Personally, I prefer a 15 minute mini-game with two 7.5 minute halves, with each team kicking off to the other at the start of the period. Reverse the way the game started out.

If it's still tied, do that again.

Would make games longer, sure. But would be the best way to take chance out of the equation.
