Specking of benchmarks, it looks like the P4 paired with the i845 is really going to get its butt kicked by Palomino -- especially in gaming (not to mention "constant computing"):

Sorry about that.

On another note, I gave two examples of what I thought were valid benchmarks. I also find older benchmarks (that may have been tuned for something, but likely not the current offerings from AMD or Intel) to be better predictors of actual performance than newer benchmarks. We run some big models that are pretty hard on the hardware, and have found the old-core Athlons at 1.3GHZ to be generally comparable to P4 1.7GHZ. And that's pretty much the result you get from benchmarks created prior to the existence of either chip.
