Internap Launches IP-based Videoconferencing Service; Teams With Cisco Systems And
Polycom.

PR Newswire, July 31, 2001 pNA

Full Text

SEATTLE, July 31 /PRNewswire/ --

Internap Network Services (Nasdaq: INAP), the leading provider of intelligent routing services over the Internet, launched its
IP-based videoconferencing service today and is teaming with Cisco Systems, the worldwide leader in networking for the Internet, for
customer routers and network infrastructure; and Polycom(R), Inc. (Nasdaq: PLCM), a worldwide leader in broadband
communications solutions, to provide its industry-leading ViewStation(TM) videoconferencing systems.

The TV-quality IP videoconferencing service is available to businesses at a substantial cost savings over traditional ISDN
videoconferencing fees, while providing exceptional quality and ease-of-use. The service supports speeds up to 2 megabits per
second (mbps), compared to ISDN, which usually runs 384 kilobits per second (kbps). Rather than "metered" per-minute usage fees
associated with ISDN service, the only recurring charges associated with Internap's IP offering are the monthly connectivity costs.

Internap is reselling a customer premise equipment solution made up of Cisco and Polycom products to enable their customers to
access the videoconferencing service. The solution includes the:

-- Cisco 1720 Modular Access Router, the recommended customer premise

equipment, which delivers a flexible, integrated data access solution

for small or medium-sized businesses and small branch offices, and

-- Polycom's ViewStation, the company's revolutionary line of interactive

video communications systems that provide high-quality video

communication for both point-to-point and multipoint videoconferencing.

The Internap videoconferencing service is delivered over the company's industry-leading Overlay Network, which is based on an
end-to-end Cisco Powered Network infrastructure. In addition to the Cisco 1720 routers, the videoconferencing service runs over a
powerfully scalable and feature-rich IP network made up of the industry-leading Cisco 12000 Series Internet Routers, Cisco 7200
and 7500 Series Routers and Cisco Catalyst(R) 6500 Series Switches. This network architecture is a key part of Internap's ability
to offer the highest levels of reliability, class of service, performance and guaranteed packet delivery required on services such as
the one announced today.

"Internap's Overlay Network enables the Internet to be used by businesses for the most demanding applications such as our new
videoconferencing service," said Alan Norman, vice president of corporate development for Internap Network Services. "We are
very excited to be working with such high caliber partners as Cisco, Polycom and to bring customers the components they need to
quickly implement the service."

"We are delighted to be working with a cutting-edge solutions provider like Internap," said Sameer Padhye, vice president of
marketing for Cisco's Service Provider Line of Business. "Their new videoconferencing service is a prime example of the types of
robust, leading-edge IP-based applications Cisco is enabling service providers to deliver with our networking solutions. Through
offerings like this, Internap can cost-effectively provide their customers with a greater level of service while achieving more value
and return on investment from their Cisco Powered Network infrastructure.

"High-quality interactive video communications is an essential business tool for improving productivity, increasing teamwork, and
saving significant time and money on travel costs and lost productivity due to time out of the office," said Craig Malloy, senior vice
president and general manager of video communications for Polycom. "Partnering with Internap allows us to bring the benefits
offered by business-quality video communications to a broader market of users."

The higher quality video transit quality is made possible by Internap's Overlay Network that monitors the traffic situation over all the
major Internet backbones and routes mission-critical data in a faster, more reliable, and more managed fashion than conventional
Internet technology.
