Dan, >Enjoy your 6 months - then AMD will enjoy the next 1 1/2 years.

6 months, 1 1/2 years, whatever, I see some permanent (or as permanent as it gets in this industry) changes being made by IBM and Compaq, and they're all going against AMD. Permanent is timeless. They won't reverse their decisions in your 1 1/2 or 2 years. Then there's Dell. All the AMD threads on the net get all excited when Eric "Weasel" Ross starts another rumor. Well, Dell is further from considering AMD now than they've probably been in 2 years. Another loss, or at least loss of hope. Word fits. AMD is looking pretty hopeless.

Dan, Re: "Enjoy your 6 months - then AMD will enjoy the next 1 1/2 years."

Only in the deepest recesses of your wild imagination, Dan. Process improvements don't make market share, it's about products that people are interested in. However, AMD doesn't have any such products, and that's becoming increasingly clear, as their larger customers are ditching them in favor of the more reliable sale (i.e. Intel).

Dan, if SOI is as big of a (non-)success as copper was, then Intel has absolutely nothing to worry about. AMD rode on the success of Athlon, but as Scumbria pointed out, the two-year party for Athlon is over.
