Dan, Re: "No, Intel went from 1GHZ to 1.5GHZ, with little or no increase in performance on most software."

You're comparing the fantasies of Steve Jobs with the realities of the Pentium 4. The G4 might be able to get about 1GHz, but then again, rumors a few months ago said it would get to 2GHz, which should show you how delusional they are about the capabilities of that chip.

In your version of reality, the Pentium reaches 1.5GHz and offers little to no improvement. In the actual version of reality, I've already shown you huge increases in performance on your very own benchmarks, and the Pentium 4 will reach 2GHz this month. That's still a 2x increase by going from 10 to 20 pipeline stages on the same process. Not that I expect you to agree with reality, however.

RE:"Motorola has said that SOI will let it produce 1+ GHZ CPUs with a 7 stage pipeline. Motorola had a 100% frequency increase from one week to the next with a very substantial performance increase (not that performance seems to matter to anyone these days)."

You guys completely miss the point! lol

SOI is no d#mn good unless Intel invented it and controls it.

Firewire was no d$mn good because Apple invented it. So Intel comes up with USB2.

Hypertransport is no d@mn good because Intel has 3GIO.

DDR was no d@mn good because Intel controlled Rambus...
oops, someone slipped there. lol

Copper was no good on .18u because Intel didn't go there either...

Only Intel can tell the industry where to go!
