are you suggesting that my original point, that jla is a homophobe, is invalid?

Not long ago, you pressed me hard to define the term "deviant" as I had used it, and didn't want to accept my definition when I gave it.

Now let's turn the shoe.

Please define for us the term "homophobe" as you used it in your posts about jlallen. Please be specific and precise, as I know you, as a lover of language, can be when you care to.

Karen, are you suggesting that my original point, that jla is a homophobe, is invalid? You and Tim are unintentionally dragging the issue pretty far afield, I believe.

I don't see how you can draw any conclusions about JLA's or anyone's homophobia from his failure to call AJ on his comment, even if JLA had been hanging around all day as usual, which he wasn't. (I doubt he caught up on all those posts because I think there was at least one he would have reacted to had he read it.)

As for homophobia on RWET, I have read very little of that thread so I don't have a first hand opinion. I only stared reading it again a few weeks ago when I was reinstated. I haven't seen any such comments since then. I would not be shocked if you were correct, I just don't have enough information to have an opinion.

If there were a lot of homophobia on the thread, what would be JLA's responsibility to snuff it out? What conclusions can we fairly draw from his not doing so? I would say that, had there been a lot of offenses, and had he ignored them, he would be more tolerant of homophobes than I can condone, and perhaps one himself, but not necessarily one.

In fairness, I have not been reading every word of this little colloquy between you and JLA, but I haven't seen any argument that would warrant your charge. His failure to respond to AJ or to quell the alleged homophobic expression on RWET do not, in themselves, persuade me.

Karen
