Hi KT,

I'm getting ready for my annual assault on Saratoga. I can't wait.

How's all with you?

Do you get the feeling that the world economy is going to hell in a hand basket?

To All, I love my job, but I had a horrendous day yesterday. Operationally, not in the market or anywhere else. I had 7 accounts that had pending decays on them. No warning. I just planned to call a client and there was this notice on his account in the computer. You would think this sort of thing would have red flashes and sirens ringing, but, noooo. So, seeing that that one surprised me, I checked all the rest and found that several had the same problem. It wasn't that hard to fix, but it was time consuming.

Then there was one account where I had to fight with our back office all day long. I think I won, but I haven't demobilized yet. <g>

Then, believe it or not, I even made a couple of mistakes and the corrections took literally hours to complete. Mea culpa, but it was like getting a 2 year sentence for jaywalking. <g>

Meanwhile, colleagues are walking in asking me if I will share fees on some of their risk averse accounts. Now, of course I will. Duh! <G> It sure beats cold calling. But, excited though I am about the prospects of ready-made fees falling into my lap, I am the only one doing what I am doing and I know who is going to have to do the paperwork and set up all the crapola and clean up the mess I either make or is made in the wake of my normal activity.

Every day this week, our new sales manager has walked in and asked how many calls I've made. He asks everyone. He didn't do it Friday and I am happy. I like him very much and he didn't need to hear me crank on about how I haven't called a client (a bit of an exaggeration, but close to the truth) all danged day because I've been cleaning up messes. Some, admittedly, my own fault.

We had a broker leave the business and his accounts were doled out among the new guys. This is usually regarded as a huge bonus for new consultants. I asked our Admin officer if she would give my portion to others as I just didn't have time to call on folks I didn't know, and they deserve some handholding with the other guy departing. Everyone was happy but some were shaking their heads wondering what I was smoking. <g>

So, after 3 full weeks of real work, I have given myself the following grades on the 3 parts of my job:

Portfolio management B+.

Brokering C+

Operations F- Is that as low as I can go? <g>

As far as job enjoyment goes, the first two are A+. The third, well, there has to be a lower grade.

So, let's just say that I am happy for the weekend. And I hope by Monday the folks in our cage stop calling me "the troublemaker." <g>
