Although a libertarian, Sowell makes the point that cultures show a remarkable persistence in diverse circumstances, and have a lot to do with disparity in occupational interests or material prospects. For example, the overseas Chinese are almost all oriented towards trade. Ashkenazi Jews are unusually represented in the professions, if not debarred from it. Both, given opportunity, tend to fare better materially then some other ethnic groups.......
