and if you ever have to cross Idaho and instead of going on I84 take US 30 and see Craters of the Moon-- get to walk into lava tubes, domes-- not really exciting stuff but interesting that it was a large flow and somewhat connected to one of the biggest volcanoes around which was Yellowstone
- which is believed to be a collasped volcano:

At the heart of Yellowstone's past, present, and future lies volcanism. Catastrophic volcanic eruptions occurred here

About 2 million years ago,
then 1.2 million years ago,
and then again 600,000 years ago.
The latest eruption spewed out nearly 240 cubic miles of debris. What is now the park's central portion then collapsed, forming a 28- by 47- mile caldera (or basin). The magmatic heat powering those eruptions still powers the park's famous geysers, hot springs, fumaroles, and mud pots.

I moved a park ranger lady who told me more stuff than I could remember from Idaho to Arizona-- then she scolded me for feeding the chipmunks on the edge of Grand Canyon when I would bobtail my truck to visit-- she said I gave the death sentence cuz the little critters forget to forage for food and instead beg and when winter comes and no one is around they die .... that made me feel this tall--(spread your thumb and finger)... she said being a ranger is cool cuz if they dont need them she goes to MExico for the winter and parties on the beaches-- and I drive truck and kill chipmunks....
