"Each president brings to the job his own ethos, his own character, his own karma. George W. Bush has it in him to become the Vacation President, to lead a grateful and very tired nation to a place in which its citizens can stop and smell the onion rings."

Go ahead...Sometimes it's nice just to vent like this.

As for the kids, they'll resurrect whatever reference points they like eventually-and won't ask either of us...

California artist probing the limits of what is acceptable, crosses over the line:

Dispatches from the porn belt

The Boston Globe reports on "a growing movement on college campuses that is testing the bounds of academic freedom by introducing pornography into the classroom." Example: Richard Burt, a professor at the University of Massachusetts (Gore by 27.3%) at Amherst, maintained a campus Web site "which featured pictures of bare-chested strippers straddling his lap and of his wife dressed as a porn star." (Huh? "Dressed" as a porn star?)

Some things, however, are too hot to handle, even in the Porn Belt. In California (Gore by 11.8%), the State Fair has banned the exhibition of "Loose Lips Sink Ships," an award-winning sculpture by Peter Langenbach that depicts a man and a woman in a bathtub. In National Review Online, K. Lloyd Billingsley quotes assistant general manager Brian May as explaining that "the exhibit could be offensive to some people and inappropriate for young children," primarily because of "the location of [the woman] to the overall position of [the man]."

California's artists were outraged, protesting this act of censorship. Well, actually they weren't--and perhaps that has something to do with who was depicted in the sculpture: Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky.

TLC:

You've written a fabulous post. Unfortunately none of the hard core liberals on this thread will take the time to read and absorb.
If I am wrong and one of them does, I await a rebuttal to any point you made.

Thank you,

BobP

I read your post and it read smoothly, at first I thought this sounds well reasoned. Then I thought about it. President Bush is an example of a way of doing business. He walk the way he talks. mr. bill and gore also represent of way of doing business and they walk the way they talk.

mr. bill and gore's way of doing business is taking the sewer way and President Bush takes the high road.

Then there are the goals or places that each wants to walk. mr. bill and gore wish to go to a place that is absent the freedom to be different as they lie about what they really want. Power corrupts and the more you centralize power the more it can be corrupt with less ability to be exposed.

President Bush wishes to distribute power back away from the federal government.

The vacant liberal minds who post here don't see the stupidity of where they want to go and make their case as whining and ranting and personal attacks on the honor of good public folks who have done nothing wrong.

I'd found over time that several vacant liberal minds who post on this thread have no socially redeeming value. But as has been mentioned the level and number of inane posts seems to be rising and my believe is it is the combination of personal economic pain and pain in the fact that President Bush just keeps on winning and nice guys are not supposed to finish first. So life will go on and I don't expect any appeal to those who don't think to think will make any difference and those who do think will consider what you have said.

There is the message and the method and the Democrat message is stupid and thus can only be advanced by True Believers and as reality does not support a stupid message then the only method left is the sewer path.

I always speak of mr. bill and gore and this is my mark of disrespect to the lying and cowardly way they have conducted themselves. Their public demeanor has been beyond the pall in my opinion and my method of message has my purpose of always reminding any who read that we are talking of a rapist and someone who knew this or was to stupid to know this. gore rendered the opinion that the rapist was the best that ever was. The absentee ballot issue and the means it represents was what made gore just another rapist.

TLC,

I understand your concerns. The internet will no doubt continue to evolve.

Regarding adult material, I would like to see some internet zoning take place.

Most places you can't have a liquor store or strip club next to a grade school.

"www.adult-site.com" would become "xxx.adult-site.com"

This would make filtering sex oriented material much easier.

You can't get rid of pornography, but it can and should be managed.

TLC...sometimes on SI a post is written so well, that just to read that single post justifies all the time spent on zipping over "trash posts"....

Really appreciate your post on this issue!!!

How serious does it have to be?
How serious is it? Are you just channeling some shock-jock reaction to a rare event? In my kid's school, most of the kid's are worried about the next school dance and whether they will have zits. That doesn't mean that other troubles are not present, but it does mean that the kids are alright.
We have a series of greusome cat killings in our neighborhood . In spite of a large reward they have continued. When will it turn to people killing or raping? Still, that is not different from the series of dog killings that happened when I was a kid (and were a prelude to burgleries where they didn't want the dogs aroung). They were bad things, but these things as bad as they may seem, are not unusual for a city as a whole.

It is a bad when a generation begins to think that they are the last good generation and that those coming behind are evil and spawn of the devil. I think you should be ahamed of yourself for placing yourself in the position of the last great person before the downfall of mankind. There are solutions to some of these problems that stretch beyond praying for guidance and pointed more guns at everyone else. Sometimes you have to surrender possibilities that you would rather not contemplate to safeguard the future.
