I agree with that to a certain extent. I think we are born with certain characteristics (personality traits) which will be us always. Everyone has a particular bent.

But I also believe "as the twig is bent, so grows the tree".

As parents, we have the responsibility for judicious "pruning", and with the right tools (love and respect for your children) they will probably grow into "sturdy plants".

Oh gee, get me started on my kids, and I go all sappy.
