In and around Virginia - you guys have the biggest hornets
I have ever seen-- I was folding pads(straighten out the inside of the trailer) when I heard this 'helicopter' noise that was an insect-- geez-- aint kidding CB this thing must of been 2+ inches-- huge -- I jumped out and watch it decide if it wanted the trailer to be home-
heres yesterdays adventure-- your right just cut it out--
but look - we still dont know how far it goes-- you can measure the size with the reg size outlet cover for cable--
Ma says they are still coming out and another neighbor said they will for a while esp still hatching--

Yellow Jacket problem.....

I have been very successful getting rid of yellow jackets and wasps by simply using a shop vac with about six feet of solid extension (pretty standard for a shop vac) at the end of the flexible tube. Just carefully place the end of the extension at the opening to the nest. This will annoy the hell out of them and they will come out and immediately be sucked into the shop vac. If there seems to be a lull in the exodus, tap on the wall or nest and more will come out. The tapping will also alarm the members of the colony that are out seeking pollen and they will return to protect the nest and be sucked into the vacuum.. If you are able to prop up the vac extension(I fixed it to a step ladder) and get a safe distance away. I have cleaned out at least 10 nests so far including one that took more than an hour and netted about 1000 yellow jackets..... The method will also work on ground hornets if you can locate the opening to the nest but those guys are far more aggressive so place the end of the vacuum at hole and move away. The vacuuming kills most since they impact on a baffle inside .....Those that live don't survive much longer.
