I'm not moralizing about the stupidity of people participating in the lottery (though it IS indisputably stupid). I am railing about the fact that it is a government run program and a monopoly at that. And since you are involved in a government program, that makes your stupidly is my business, which annoys me.

The moralizers in the state legislatures have passed laws making it illegal for private citizens and corporations to run lotteries. Gambling bad.

The very same legislatures passed laws authorizing state run lotteries. Gambling good.

If I solicit you to participate in my illegal lottery I go to jail. Gambling bad.

If an agent of the state entices you to drive across 2 states and wait in line 3 hours at the quickie mart to buy 100 bucks worth of power ball tickets, he gets a big bonus. Gambling good.

Institutionalized blatant hypocrisy - bad policy.
