Blacks as a block have shown themselves to be dispensible. They are certainly indispensible to Democratic Senators from Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Louisiana etc. Without those black votes, those senators would be in trouble. Hispanic votes are now indispensible to Republican candidates. A person like Jesse Helms is a great help to Demos seeking Hispanic votes. Bush did not do well with Hispanics. Republicans, in general, did not do well with Hispanics. John McCain knows this and is slowly distancing himself from the right wing of the party. Here, in Washington State, we know that Republicans will continue to nominate candidates from the right wing of the party and will therefore, continue to lose state wide offices. Candidates like Jesse Helms certainly do help us.

I think that Foxnews and the tone of President Bush is turning the tide about what blacks think and who is concerned about what they think. BOND: 10 Reasons to Boycott the NAACP The Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson, founder and president of the Los Angeles based Brotherhood Organization of a New Destiny, is no fan of the liberal civil rights establishment. He's called for a national day of repudiation for the media's favorite civil rights leader, the Rev. Jesse Jackson. And he's even demanded that Jackson drop the title "Reverend" after admitting he fathered an out-of-wedlock baby while he was cheating on his wife. A more recent target of the Rev. Peterson's ire is the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, which he says no longer even tries to deal with the "real problems" of the black communtiy. Peterson has called for a boycott of the NAACP, calling it less a non-partisan civil rights organization than the African-American wing of the Democratic National Committee. This week the Rev. Peterson released a list of ten reasons why he thinks Americans should boycott the nation's oldest civil rights organization. 1) The NAACP has sold out its original intent: Where the organization once sought to give black Americans a helping hand, today the NAACP is squandering its mantle of leadership through petty, partisan and even racist activities. 2) Absent Fathers: The suicide rate for young black males aged 10 to 19 increased by 114 percent since 1980. Where are black fathers, and where is the NAACP? 3) Out-of-wedlock Births: Over 70 percent of black babies are born out of wedlock, compared to 26 percent of white babies. Where is the outcry from the NAACP? 4) Abortion: Black women are three times more likely than white women to have an abortion. There are 1,452 black children aborted every day. What is the NAACP doing about this? 5) Education: Forty-four percent of black Americans over the age of 15 cannot read. Sixty percent of black fourth-graders cannot do basic mathematics. Calling the NAACP! 6) Crime: Murder is the leading cause of death for black men between the ages of 15 and 34, and 90 percent of these murders are committed by other blacks. Where is the NAACP? 7) Illegal Immigration: Illegal immigration has exploded in the United States in recent years, pushing blacks out of their neighborhoods, schools and jobs. The NAACP refuses to take action against this. 8) Voting rights for Violent Offenders: The NAACP is in favor of restoring voting "rights" for millions of muderers, rapists and other violent criminals! 9) Dangerous Alliances: The NAACP consistently aligns itself with political parties and politicians who work against the best interests of the black community. 10) Guns and Blacks: The NAACP has filed a class-action lawsuit against gun manufacturers, in effect blaming them for black-on-black crime.
