Hey Russet do not go there.

I have worked as a forman with twelve guys under me . That was it ,due to legal requirements and contracts they could not sneak in an extra person. The pay was better than teaching.

When I guide I can take only 5 people in with me after that I need to have another experienced person. The pay is pretty good as well.Better than teaching.

A couple of former students are pulling 120 grand a year as mechanics. They reached that level in six years and got paid while being trained during their aprenticeships.Teachers? Gotta go to school for 6 years with no pay, the starting wage is around 36 grand and it will take 8 more years to hit max. Max is around 54 grand unless they have a masters degree. Oh yeah that takes another year or so of training,

Starting wage at the local paper mill? Close to 50 grand. And it does not take 6 years without pay and an investment of 50 grand or more to get there.

Ever see what happens to parents at a birthday party? Ever listen to the parents afterward?

Thats nothing.

A typical class will contain 30 kids, several on drugs one or 2 will be real special, toss in a sexual deviant and of course the local B and E specialist, now toss in about 50 percent split families, a kid thats abused and some poor kid with a serious medical problem. Now toss in several walkmans playing Rap crap at full volume with Em an M swearing his heart out.Now mix in a ton of roaring hormons and of course a few normal kids (whatever that means.)
Now teach them. 5 times a day every day change the mix. Do not be rude to the poor little dear who has just slammed the little kid in the locker, be nice to the girl who has just come in late and asked several boys which of her breasts is bigger, and do not dare touch the kid holding the scissors besides your car who announces "you can not touch me and you cannot prove I keyed your car."

25 % of the people who start teaching are out in the first year. Almost 50 % are out by year 5. (These are the smart ones) The job is ranked a second to airtraffic controlers as the most stressful in the world. The toll on health to those who work past the age 55 is very high.

If you are not doing the job, kicking the guy who does is pretty unfair. Its not unusual to hold a grudge against teachers. After all you spent 12 years of your life having to go to school when you wanted to be out playing. Abit of resentment is normal. Get over it!

regards
ralfph

Oh yeah. I have gotten the hugs and tears from kids and many have turned up at the end of the year and said thanks for for caring. Those are what makes the job worth while.
I am not a door mat or someones whipping boy.

Now Lawyers on the other hand.... now there is some ,overpaid!@#^%$*&(^%%_)(**&^%^^%%#$$#@!! <ggg>

Right on! The NS Department of Education was concerned also because their software is being introduced in NS high schools. It's not often we see anything mentioned on the local TV news with regard to a stock but they gave a nice bit on Knowledge House's situation this evening. They were very positive so it sounds like a good buying opportunity.

Hey russett... u 1 squished hamster<g>

I'm a teacher... & I agree 100% with your post!

Remember the old saying, those who can... do. Those who can't... teach.

Regards,
Peter

p.s. Just catching up on the rest of the posts & u beat me to the punch...re: da old saying.
I really think your arguement stands. Period. No question in my mind. Teachers are probably some of the greatest assholes that have ever walked on the face of the earth.
IMO most teacher are too busy playing politics, instead of teaching.
