eco,

re: All the problems for Gateway you enumerated would instantly go away

As well as 80% of their sales.

If your entire business depended on selling pop drinks, would you discontinue Coke and sell only RC Cola, on the assumption that you could "educate" your consumer that it was better?

"The question becomes, to what extent would that loss be mitigated by: (1) converting 'Intel only' customers thru education by a motivated sales staff; (2) new business secondary to pent up demand for an AMD corporate/server line; and, (2) new business as a result of new interest in the company based on the publicity generated by a) this unprecedented strategic move, and b) the aggressive, AMD-supported advertising campaign."

Sounds like the very thing that could breate life back into GTW as such a plan would clearly differentiate GTW from Dell in the mind of the consumer...Right now GTW offers the same product as Dell but seemingly can't do so as efficiently and effectively...BY offering "AMD only" GTW could compete with Dell on a second plane in which its price/performance could easily outperform Dell...

and besides, "AMD only" has a mellifluous ring to it...
