IMO, AMD has the technically superior product.

IMO your opinion is flawed. AMD no longer has the technically superior product. Athlons underperform P4s in all modern benchmarks and some of those are by a wide margin. AMD has been on .13u transistors to try and keep from falling farther behind and each frequency increment have yielded lower gains compared to P4. Jerry promised 1.5GHz Athlons for last January and that was 8 months ago. Athlon hit the wall in frequency and P4 is soaring even on .18u transistors. A new generation P4 is coming soon with larger L2 caches and an even faster FSB. P4 scales remarkably well and Athlon's simply run out of gas, even if it could keep scaling. The Athlon FPU is uncompetitive on new code and that's not going to change soon.
