Grave misconception. First, believing Christians are among the most generous givers to charity. Second, speaking for myself only, I believe setting up government as a buffer between you and the poor is an expensive, and lazy way to AVOID personal charity and helping the poor.

These days no one wants to be their brothers keeper.

You raise an interesting point. The left has been floundering since they went secular. Do you think lefties today would embrace the rhetoric of Martin Luther King or the Berrigan brothers? I doubt it.
