It even exists in animals.

The thing I like best about Fox News is that they have a lot of segments on animals. The other day they had a momma cat nursing her kittens and a pair of baby squirrels that had fallen from a tree. It does the heart good.

I think the ability to love something that is not your own is one of our saving graces.

Seriously, I think that's very well said. Not everyone may "get" the level of "fully emotionally maturity and morally development" it takes to do that.

Sure, it is not loving another but loving a child as your own that I doubt.

Loving others is easy, especially if we are talking about cute strangers in someone else's house. We are in the age of the serial monogamy type of love. I will love you and devote my life to you...until I have a bad hair day...then on to the next guy/girl....there is an entirely different level of devotion to a child who IS "your own."

I welcome (with some caution) the loving attention of other adults toward the children who ARE "my own."
